Should you become damaged or otherwise need to land at an airport other than your home base, you can change to PUSH-2 or 3 and ask AWACS for a “DIVERT AIRFIELD”. AWACS will give you a vector and range to the closest airbase. The TAW Manual notes that if the AWACS is unavailable (as in shot down) you obviously won’t be getting any help from them. Keep in mind that you can land at other allied airbases to rearm and refuel at any time. All that is required is that you come to a full stop on the runway and your weapons and fuel will be replaced.
That completes our cross country flight. You can taxi in, pop the canopy, and start thinking about our next training flight!
As usual the mission summary draws a map of our actual flight track over the pre-planned route and includes any significant events (none). Points are also awarded for completion of free-flight missions.
