The Sim Community

One of the really great things about these events is the chance to meet up with friends and associates of the simulation community. We really are just that, friends and community, and it’s something I’ve always been impressed with. That you can meet with someone you’ve only talked with before online and you’re with a friend.

Now, I first met Jason Williams from GoGamer, at the E3 event two years ago, and it was great getting a chance to hook up and talk about what’s going on. Lots going on with Jason. For starters, as you may know, he just got engaged recently. Congrats buddy!

He always has good insight into what’s going on with the simulation world, and so we talked about things, about E3 (which he went to and I didn’t), E For All and how the two events were related in some ways (such as E3 being at the LA Convention Center until this year and E For All starting out at the Convention Center), what they covered or didn’t cover, the attendance, that kind of thing. We talked about flight sims and what was on the horizon there. We’re both excited about Black Shark and about what DCS means for a truly hardcore stand alone study simulation to come about, how it fires up the community in so many ways.

And we talked a little about what was up with him. He’s got some plans and right now all I can say is that the plans involve some transition from the retail into the developmental side of sims. Stay tuned on this and we at SimHQ will definitely let you know what’s up.

20mm and Jason... ...Jason and Sim

Another simmer I met with goes with the call sign “Sim” on our boards and I’m sure you’ve seen a lot of his posts. He’s got a thread going in the DCS Black Shark forum on his impressions and some of the photos he took. Nice guy and a dedicated sim fan.

He found something, a gamers vest, that I hadn’t seen at the show. It’s a really interesting piece of gear. It’s supposed to give the player the impact of the game. Such as if you’re playing an FPS and you take a round to the chest, you feel it. Or, perhaps, if you’re flying a flight sim and you hit the throttle, you feel it, or if you lurch forward or the sides, etc. I get the impact (sorry) on the FPS side, but the flight sim angle is a little obtuse. We’ll see, it does sound like something we could follow up on.

And that’s it for this edition gang.

“Hey wait a minute 20mm…!”

“…what about more details on Black Shark?”

“…how about CH Products? What do they have coming up?”

“…did you have that chance to talk with rjetster of Fighter Ops?”

“…and no more booth babes?”

Relax, you nattering nabobs of negativism. All shall be revealed. Well, not in the case of the booth babes, but you know what I mean.

I mean, stay tuned for the next report. We’re not done yet.
