Had I followed the campaign to the ultimate end I’m sure that NATO would have lost handily. Time constraints and the need to continue with other aspects of the review prevented me from allowing the campaign to run the full course, but the writing was definitely on the wall.
I remain impressed with the Balkans Theatre for the feel of a new campaign, the aggressiveness of the enemy forces and the very nicely rendered terrain and objects. The textures really are superb and lend a great new feeling to F4:AF. My only gripe about the Balkans is that the planning map does not show roads, so the pathways to the bridges and cities cannot be determined if you wish to play General and start manipulating ground troops.
While most people will focus on the Balkans Theatre with regards to F4:AF, don’t overlook our old friend the Korean peninsula. It has been reworked with very nice looking terrain and it will provide a great challenge for a straight-up us versus them war. The campaigns range from relatively easy, to extremely difficult. My next real campaign is going to be the Year 2005 Iron Fortress campaign where US/ROK forces are pushed to the very southern end of the peninsula for the start and we must scrap and fight to gain back lost ground.
