I did notice that not all of the units that are present in the Balkans Theatre are present in the Tactical Reference manual. I was curious what aircraft type kept attacking my NATO airbases so I looked up the designator for the J-22 and could find no reference to it in the TACREF. A Google search pegged it as a J-22 “Orao” a relatively small Yugoslavian produced aircraft that looks a bit like the Jaguar.

Since we are on the subject, the J-22 was often seen streaking in under enemy air cover to savage our NATO bases. If you happen to be in the midst of a countdown for a mission sortie when an airfield attack is inbound, you will be alerted and offered the chance to intercept the incoming raiders.
The blood definitely gets pumping as you tear down the runway intent on killing the enemy before he has a chance to crater your home runway.
The first time I attempted a scramble intercept I was a bit slow on the draw and didn’t get my weapons out first since I had to actively search for the targets using my radar (my AWACS was down). By the time I got a missile off the incoming TARCAP flight had launched their long range radar missiles and I took a hit. Surprisingly, I was still able to fly, although I had to manually trim the aircraft full left wing down and full nose down to counter the severe rolling and pitching tendencies the damage caused.
Trailing smoke, with the HUD knocked out and analog gauges only I managed to get around the pattern after one aborted landing attempt and set her down although the landing gear took some damage. I ended up tearing across the grass but survived to fly another day. Landing damaged airplanes in F4:AF is reminiscent of the great feeling of accomplishment I used to get landing damaged airplanes in EF2000 v2.0.
