Conclusions and Recommendations
This is where I normally provide purchase advice, but considering that OFF is free, it’s hard NOT to recommend it to anybody with an interest in World War One aviation. The ‘standard’ for WW1 sims has to be Dynamix’s Red Baron 3D. I have heard comments from some dedicated RB3D fans that maybe it’s time to move on… and OFF is the logical destination. I don’t really agree that OFF has the game play value of RB3D, due to the limitations imposed by the CFS 3 engine, but it is serious competition when all game aspects are considered.
OFF is probably one of the best WW1 simulations currently available, if only by default, until newer titles are released. The only reason not to get OFF is if you have an unrelenting hatred of CFS 3. Admittedly, I am NOT fond of any of Microsoft’s air combat games, but I do like OFF and I plan on keeping it on my computer for the near future. The CFS 3 limitations, while very frustrating at times, are offset by the significant improvements implemented by the OFF team. It obviously took a bunch time and dedication to build this add-on, so the next time you see one of them in our forums don’t forget to say THANK YOU!
