A Decade of Rainbow Six Page 7

The Future of the Series, the Future of Tactical Shooters

Well in my opinion, as long as Ubisoft continues to hold the license to Tom Clancy’s name, and as long as “suits” at that company continue to mandate the direction of the Rainbow Six series, we will continue to see good games with great eye candy and sounds, and less tactical aspects of gameplay.

Rainbow Six as most of us remember it and love it is gone, never to be visited again. Now the Rainbow Six series follows the “in” crowd, (that’s where the money is by the way), so we will continue to see action shooters over tactical shooters in this series.

Will we ever see Rainbow Six as a hardcore tactical shooter again? I honestly don’t think so. Will we see more games with the Tom Clancy name, and the Rainbow Six title? Yep I do believe we will. Maybe the next one is Rainbow Six: London, or New York, or Miami.

Nothing to do with Ubisoft, Tom Clancy, or the Rainbow Six series but our only hope in getting back that tactical feeling of yester-year like the Rainbow Six series started out is Ground Branch from BlackFoot Studios.

But no matter what the direction of the series has gone, there is no doubt that the series is great, and has a long running history of great gameplay. Sure the earlier ones were made for players like me, looking for more realism, real world tactics, and a dedication to teamwork. While the newer versions, are good in their own right, but more for the younger gamers looking for ease of play, and maybe not a run and gun experience, but something not as tactics or hardcore.

Thanks for the memories Tom. It’s been a great ten years of gaming due to the Rainbow Six series.
