If you’re a member of the DayZ forums, you probably want to jump on over there and change your password (especially if you use the same password elsewhere). Bohemia Interactive announced, on Reddit, that an information breach had occurred:
“According to our investigation all usernames, emails and passwords from forums.dayzgame.com were accessed and downloaded by hackers… While the passwords were not stored in plain text, but in a more secure form, it is highly recommended that if you have used the same password elsewhere you change it immediately on all applicable websites and services.”
The attack, which also brought down Mini DayZ, has prompted Bohemia to replace their current login system with a new one, which should be coming out later this month.
The original attack was announced last week via Twitter, but confusion ensued as the following day this Facebook update appeared in the wild, claiming issues with the Arma 3 Alpha Program. Regardless of the mixed signals and response time, it’s clear that you should probably change your login info on the forums if you’re a member.
Keep those passwords safe!
